Susan Darker-Smith


Susan M. Darker-Smith is an EMDR Europe accredited child & adolescent trainer, both an EMDRIA and EMDR Europe EMDR consultant and a founding trustee of the Trauma Response Network UK (founded after the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017). She is the clinical director of the Child Trauma Therapy Centre in the UK.

Susan holds master’s level qualifications in psychotherapy and human rights law, writing her law thesis in the field of moral injury experienced by judicial process by victims of sexual abuse trauma.

Susan has presented both nationally and internationally in the fields of modifying EMDR to meet the needs of neurodivergent clients, neurodiverse affirming practice (and how to make EMDR accessible to all our clients), EMDR Narratives within EMDR across the age-span, Intergenerational wounding, the application of EMDR for survivors of trafficking and other human rights violations, end of life narratives for terminally ill clients and the application of EMDR for eating disorders.

She is a passionate advocate of modifying EMDR practise to create a neurodiverse affirming and nurturing therapeutic space for both clients and supervisees alike.
