Description

Emotional avoidance is a distinguishing feature of eating disorders as well as many other clinical conditions, including anxiety and depression which often co-occur with disordered eating and body image concerns. This session will demonstrate how emotional awareness, tolerance, and acceptance can be built utilizing transdiagnostic treatment.

Rebecca Berman, LCSW-C, LCSW, MLSP, CEDS-S, (she/her), is a Clinical Training Specialist at The Renfrew Center. She specializes in treating eating disorders and trauma. Ms. Berman also has a special interest in working with the transgender population. Ms. Berman co-authored The Renfrew Unified Treatment for Eating Disorders and Comorbidity - Therapist Guide. She co-developed and supervises the Trauma Track and trauma therapists throughout The Renfrew Center organization. Ms. Berman has presented nationally on the transdiagnostic treatment of eating disorders and the treatment of trauma and eating disorders. She has hosted several webinars on a variety of eating disorder related topics and has also lobbied on Capitol Hill. Maintaining a private practice in Arlington, VA, she is a member of the Eating Disorders Coalition, the Academy of Eating Disorders, the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, and the National Association of Social Workers. She is the treasurer of the Baltimore Metro Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
