Description

Adolescence can put intense pressure on the mother-daughter dyad—and restoring and strengthening that important relationship is one of the most overlooked ways to help teen girls in therapy. Blame, shame, and feeling misunderstood often cause teen girls to lash out against their mothers, who then pull away, sometimes just to keep the peace, leaving daughters even more alone to struggle with growing up. As a therapist, having an understanding of how this powerful dyad works and ways to intervene can make all the difference for mothers and their daughters. In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • The critical role mothers and mother-figures play for teen girls, and how to effectively reach them in today’s world
  • Specific techniques for working in therapy with common feelings of shame and blame among mothers and teen daughters, especially when they are in the room together
  • How to focus on the most critical societal pressures facing teen girls, and help them resolve them together with their mothers
